How P&P Works

Wait, so you don't actually sell books?

Nope. We're a curated bookshop, not a retailer.

Think of us like a really opinionated librarian with a website. We find the books, organize them into a framework that actually makes sense, and point you to where you can buy them.

When you click a book link, you're taken to Bookshop.org (for new books) or Better World Books (for used/affordable books). You complete your purchase there. They handle payment, shipping, customer service, and returns.

We earn a small affiliate commission that funds our programs - like the Department of Childish Revolution workshops we're building in Long Beach.

Why do it this way?

Because we're mission-driven, not profit-driven.

We chose partners who align with our values:

  • Bookshop.org supports independent bookstores
  • Better World Books funds literacy programs and keeps books affordable

We're not trying to compete with Amazon. We're trying to build something better.

Ordering & Shipping

How do I buy a book?

  1. Find a book you want
  2. Click the black button ("Get It New") or outlined button ("Find It Used")
  3. You'll be taken to Bookshop.org or Better World Books
  4. Complete your purchase there

Your order, shipping, and tracking all happen on their site.

Do you ship books?

No. Bookshop.org and Better World Books ship the books you order through them.

For shipping details, check their sites:

What about merch (T-shirts, prints, etc.)?

Those we do ship - they're fulfilled by our print-on-demand partners (Printful, Printify, Shopify Collective).

  • Processing: 1-3 business days
  • Shipping (US): 5-7 business days standard
  • Tracking: Sent via email once shipped

Returns & Refunds

Can I return a book?

Book returns are handled by the site where you bought it - Bookshop.org or Better World Books. Check their return policies directly.

We don't process book returns because we didn't sell you the book.

What about merch returns?

See our Return & Refund Policy for the full details, but quick version:

  • Defective/damaged/wrong item: We replace it and cover return shipping
  • Changed your mind: 30-day return window, you cover return shipping
  • Custom items: Not returnable

Email us at returns@punkandpedagogy.com to start a return.

What P&P Actually Is

So what ARE you?

We're a cultural bookshop and learning platform based in Long Beach, California.

Part curated library. Part educational movement. Part joyful rebellion against anti-intellectualism.

We organize books into a 5-stage emotional/political reading arc (See Through It → Feel the Fissure → Laugh & Resist → Make Something Better → Raise the Future) because we think that's more useful than "Fiction/Nonfiction/Self-Help."

What's the Department of Childish Revolution?

It's the creative programs arm - filmmaking workshops, storytelling labs, media literacy for young people. Starting in Long Beach.

Parents discover it through the Raise the Future section of the bookshop. Kids learn to make things, question things, and build things.

Not a school. Something wilder.

Do you have a physical store?

Not yet. We're currently online-only, based in Long Beach.

The bookshop is how we find our people. The workshops are what we're building next.

Contact & Support

How do I reach you?

Email: chrissie@punkandpedagogy.com

Response time: Within 48 hours (usually faster)

Location: Long Beach, California

We're a small operation run by humans who actually read the emails.

What if I have a problem with my book order?

If you ordered through Bookshop.org or Better World Books, contact them directly - they handle those transactions.

If you have a question about which book to buy or need a recommendation, email us.

What about privacy? Are you tracking me?

We use minimal analytics to understand how people use the site so we can improve it. We don't sell your data, stalk you across the internet, or do any creepy surveillance nonsense.

Recommendations & Discovery

How do I find the right book?

Browse by stage (or Find Your Stage):

  • See Through It - Deconstruction; seeing systems clearly
  • Feel the Fissure - Sitting with discomfort
  • Laugh & Resist - Humor as resistance
  • Make Something Better - Building alternatives
  • Raise the Future - Books for young people

Or Scream Into the Void with how you're feeling and we'll recommend something. That's literally what we're here for.

Can you recommend books for my kid?

Yes! That's what the Raise the Future section is for.

We organize kids' books into 4 developmental stages:

  • Tiny Radicals (Ages 4-8)
  • Little Anarchists (Ages 8-12)
  • Teenage Mutant Intellectuals (Ages 12-15)
  • Adolescent Uprising (Ages 15-18)

Email us with your kid's age and interests and we'll send you a list.

What about privacy? Are you tracking me?

Payment & Pricing

Why are prices listed if I'm buying somewhere else?

We show MSRP (manufacturer's suggested retail price) for Google Shopping compliance. The actual price you pay is set by Bookshop.org or Better World Books at checkout.

Better World Books often has lower prices for used copies.

Do you accept returns on pricing errors?

If there's an obvious pricing mistake (like a $1 bell hooks book or a $700 T-shirt), we reserve the right to correct it before fulfilling.
